Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and best robot hoover can be used when you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and best robot hoover socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuum best vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. Additionally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
