In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two pins for the connector and they serve different purposes however the best method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you are having problems with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector quicknews.co.kr timing, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.
A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in the gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. The good news is that they are quite affordable and easily accessible, especially in the case of a Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternatively, GM's version of this part would be an excellent choice.
5. Tachometer
A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems within your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi a3 keys audi key replacement cost uk Copy (Moser-Mathiasen.Thoughtlanes.Net) since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other audi car keys components to be affected.
