Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're seeking a buggy to run around in or a compact stroller for strolls around the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spots.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres and look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. They are susceptible, however, to punctures. Make sure you have an repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the decade that had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easier to drive while still looking elegant.

The larger the wheels are, the better your buggy will cope with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front allow you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 wheel stroller brands year old and found that it was able to withstand grass, cobbles, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt sturdy to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require periodic pumping) offer built-in suspension that was very comfortable for my children.

Another thing to think about is the size of the seat and shape. The seat should be big enough for your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others only allow for the parent to be facing one.

A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. The buggy can be used as a one-person unit from the beginning and can be modified to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4. It includes a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. Wheels with a greater diameter

Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability while driving on rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for off-road buggies. They also make it easier to maneuver the double pushchair 3 wheeler in tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies feature wheels that swivel on the front to aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed for running and have fixed wheels that lock for greater speed and stability. This is especially useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres. This means they can be used on different terrains and are much more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures, so you'll need to have an repair kit, spare inner tube and pump handy.

These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that, she says "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to go up or down kerbs. They also have a suspension system which, in her words "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".

Buggies with larger wheels may be quite large, and can be difficult to fit in tight spaces. This could be an issue if you plan to use it as a jogger, or need to fit through narrow doorways while traveling. Many models have compact folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the main benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it's much more maneuverable particularly with a child in tow. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can be turned on a dime and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for challenging terrain such as parks, cobblestones, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3 wheeler pushchair-wheeler with her toddler and newborn and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough ground, with the swivel front wheel being especially helpful. I was also awed by the way it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when for descending or on uneven terrain."

The only drawback to this amazing mobility is that the 3 wheel double buggy wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean that it can be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to be aware of especially if you live in a urban area. If this is an issue then a 4-wheeler might be better for you.
