For a long time, Korea's scientific community has been hesitant to engage with creationists, afraid that it could boost the credibility of the group. However, silence is no any longer an option.

The STR has been campaigning to remove content from textbooks that discuss evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an early bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of how the concept of development has changed.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a theory of science that explains the evolution of genetic traits over time. The theory is based upon the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which could lead to variations in genes or whole genomes. Over the course of many generations the changes could lead to the emergence new species. The prevailing theory of evolution is known as natural selection, which describes the process by which people with advantages survive and reproduce more often than those with less favorable characteristics. This differential reproduction can be a catalyst to the emergence and evolution of new species.

The word "evolution" originates from the Latin word meaning unraveling or revealing, however the concept has had a variety of meanings as it has taken form in the sciences and in other fields. Some early evolutionists, including Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather), believed that existing species changed into other species in a certain way. Many creationists are Christians However, not all. Creationists are typically divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.

The most well-known type of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe exactly in the manner described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is literal and that the universe and the life on Earth started only recently.

OECs may be less popular however their beliefs are as passionate like the YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions-of-years old and that evolution is a myth.

Both types of creationism reject the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection could explain how life started on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible because it requires a miracle, and that the scientists who founded modern science eschewed miracles for fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists believe in naturalistic evolution and also special creation, and consider their views to be "theistic evolution." It is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." In this belief system, God creates the original species, and then allows them to evolve over time. Then these evolutionary changes will produce new species that are similar to the original ones.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in one event known as the Great Flood. They believe that all the species of the beginning were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis and argue that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.

In general, the creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional associations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view and so do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions are however more flexible and allow both evolution and creationism to be incorporated into their curricula.

What is Creationism?

The reasons aren't clear, but could include religious beliefs or the absence of creation scientists in the country.

The KACR has accomplished a lot in the past through lectures and seminar events. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and an ebook. One of these was an educational textbook on natural sciences with a creationist stance. This sparked an interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.

On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six foreign lecturers, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin presented to an audience of several thousand. KACR and its members have been giving talks on creation science at major seminaries, too. KACR intends to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
