Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum with mop vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the automatic vacuum and mop robot and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Finally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, Best Robot Hoover custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
