The second is the cost of the materials needed for an upgrade. The items used are typically either Power Dices (dropped by monsters 21and up) or Minerals and Erons (obtainable by completing specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor quests). These materials are available in the inventory of an Upgrade Vendor.

It takes time to upgrade an item. Based on the magnitude of the upgrade, it can take as long as 8 hours. The upgraded item's base stats are calculated using the item's new ilvl bonuses, perks, and other properties. This calculation determines the new Armor Class bonus, damage dice, and other crucial statistics.
